August von Fligely (born September 26, 1810 in Janów Lubelski in Galicia , today Lublin Voivodeship , † April 12, 1879 in Vienna ) was an Austrian officer, cartographer and lieutenant field marshal. He was one of the founders of the Central European Degree Measurement Commission .

August Fligely was a pupil of the military academy in Wiener Neustadt . In 1854 he became director of the Military Geographic Institute in Vienna. He made great contributions to the triangulation , land survey and cartographic representation of Austria and, since 1861, to the European degree measurement . In the production of cards he established the use of heliogravure , as it was first used for the new special 1: 75,000 card of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.

Retired in 1872, Fligely remained President of the Austrian Degree Measurement Commission until 1875 and died April 12, 1879 in Vienna. After him were Cape Fligely in the 1873 by the Austrian. North Pole expedition discovered Franz Josef Land and the Fligely Fjord in Greenland named.
