Gene database

A gene database is a database in which the genetic information of organisms - for example a person's genetic fingerprint - is stored.

Possible uses of such a database include:

  • in medicine, in order to clarify tolerances for an organ transplant in advance.
  • in law enforcement to convict a suspect as a perpetrator based on DNA material found at the crime scene .
  • in biology, to trace ancestry and relationships between different species and to set up taxonomies .
