Generación del 37

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Generación del 37 ( German  generation from 1837 ) was an association of intellectuals in the region of the Río de la Plata .

It was a group of young men who influenced the later historical development of Argentina and whose aim was to create a modernization strategy for the newly formed republic with a non-idealizing awareness of the problem. The name of the Generación del 37 had its origins in the literary salon ( Salón Literario ) founded in May 1837 by the Uruguayan Marcos Sastre (1809-1897) in Buenos Aires , also known as the Asociación de la Joven Generación Argentina or Asociación de Mayo . Most of the members lived in exile in Uruguay and Chile .
