Generala Sommera Street

The Generala-Summer A-road ( Russian Улица Генерала Соммера / uliza generala Summer A , German: "General Summer Street") is a central street in Kaliningrad , Russia .

history

Until 1946 the street was named Schönstraße in honor of Theodor von Schön . On November 21, 1966, the street was renamed ul. Generala Sommera in honor of Major General Andrei Iossifowitsch Sommer ( Russian Андрей Иосифович Соммер ; 1897–1966), under whose command the city was conquered in the Battle of Koenigsberg in early April 1945 and the thereafter stayed there and also died there.

Course and cross streets

In the west it flows into Professora Sevastjanowa uliza ( Russian Улица Профессора Севастьянова ). To the east, the street joins Proletarskaya Street ( Russian Пролетарская улица ). The road crosses from east to west, the Minsk Street ( Russian Улица Минская ) that uliza Podpolkownika Iwannikowa ( Russian Улица Подполковника Иванникова ) and the uliza Marschala Rokossowskowo ( Russian Улица Маршала Рокоссовского ).

House number 23

The Baltic Federal University of Immanuel Kant is located at 23 Generala-Sommera-Strasse . A memorial was placed there in 1980. It is a Soviet T-34 tank that stands on a pedestal. The architects SP Miroschnitschenko ( Russian С. П. Мирошниченко ) and VI Jakutin ( Russian В. И. Якутин ) were responsible for the design and execution .

Building trade school

The building of the former building trade school, which was completed in 1897, is located at Königsberger Schönstraße 12, today ul. Generala Sommera 27. The building is a cultural monument in Kaliningrad and is now used as an office building.
