Piątnica Cooperative Dairy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cooperative Dairy Piątnica ( Okręgowa Spółdzielnia Mleczarska w Piątnicy , OSM Piątnica for short ) is a cooperative milk processor in Poland . In 2009 the company generated sales of around EUR 125 million. This makes OSM Piątnica one of the ten largest dairy companies in Poland. The company is located in Piątnica in the Podlaskie Voivodeship .

The scientifically based milk production in Drozdowo in the Narew valley began in the middle of the 19th century, when a graduate of the first agricultural college in Poland - the Szkoła Gospodarstwa Wiejskiego in Warsaw - Franciszek Dionizy Lutosławski, established a dairy cattle breeding facility here. In the period that followed, the dairy industry in the region developed to a high level. As the successor to various smaller processing companies, today's cooperative dairy was built in Piątnica in 1965.

With the introduction of a cottage cheese under the “Serek Wiejski” brand, the dairy achieved an innovative success in 1991; Despite many imitators, around 50% of the Polish sales market is still held in this product category. In addition to “Serek Wiejski”, the brands “Twaróg Wiejski” and “Twój Smak” are known throughout Poland.

At the beginning of 2011, the Polish anti-monopoly office UOKiK gave its approval for the merger of the cooperative dairies in Piątnica and Ostrołęka .
