As Genus fluctuation in is linguistics the phenomenon referred to in languages with such distinction the genus of a noun varied within a language. There are different variants:

• The gender fluctuation is dialectally motivated, i. H. in varieties of the language spoken in different places, the same noun has different genera. A well-known example in German is the standard language butter , whereas butter is also possible in southern Germany .
