Geological Association of Canada

The Geological Association of Canada (GAC) is a Canadian geoscientific society based in St. John's (Newfoundland). She organizes conferences and publishes geoscientific publications. There are regional subdivisions.

It was founded in 1947 to fill a gap that existed between the representation of economic geologists in the geological department of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the academic geologists in Section IV of the Royal Society of Canada .

Prizes are the Logan Medal , the J. Willis Ambrose Medal for services to Canadian geosciences (named after the first President John Willis Ambrose ), the ER Ward Neale Medal for public relations (named after ER Ward Neale ), and the Yves Fortier Prize for journalism (named after Yves Fortier ) and the WW Hutchison Medal for young scientists.
