John Willis Ambrose

John Willis Ambrose , called Willis Ambrose, (born June 20, 1904 in Pincher Creek , Alberta , † February 19, 1974 in Kingston (Ontario) ) was a Canadian geologist and professor at Queen's University (Kingston) .

Ambrose grew up in Alberta , graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in 1932 and received a PhD in geology from Yale University in 1935 . He then worked as a geologist with the Geological Survey of Canada in Ottawa. From 1945 he was visiting professor at Queen's University and from 1948 a full member of the university. From 1962 to 1968 he headed the geological faculty there and in 1973 he retired. He was particularly concerned with reservoir geology in Canada.

In 1947 he was the first president of the Geological Association of Canada . She awards her Ambrose Medal to people who have made sustainable contributions to the earth sciences in Canada.

He was a fellow of the Geological Society of America .
