Johanne Friederike Elisabeth Schröder (born November 27, 1806 in Hamburg ; † October 6, 1887 in Coburg ), married Schmidt, was a German soprano and stage actress - as a married Betty Schmidt not to be confused with the singer Betty / Betti Schmidt, nee. Heart.

Life

(Elisabeth) Betty Schröder was born as the second eldest daughter of the baritone and actor Friedrich Schröder and the well-known soprano and actress Sophie Schröder in Hamburg in 1806. Like her siblings, she received dance and acting lessons at a very young age and soon took on minor children's roles in various theater plays, and in 1813 she also performed including dance performances at the theaters in Frankfurt am Main and Mannheim as part of her parents' guest tours.

Due to the political unrest of the Napoleonic period, the family moved completely from Hamburg in 1813, first to Prague , where Betty Schröder appeared in children's ballets, and in 1815 to Vienna , where she took part in Horschelt 's children's ballets. 1819–1821 he appeared on stage, mostly as an actress, at the Vienna Burgtheater (October 16, 1819 debut as Melitta in Sappho von Grillparzer ). In addition, Betty Schröder had her soprano voice trained by the music teachers Giuseppe Ciccimarra and Joseph Mozatti. In July 1822, guest performances were held at the Dresden Court Theater and the Leipzig Theater together with the mother and older sister Wilhelmine , and in August 1822 at the Kassel Court Theater . On July 5, 1823, Betty Schröder played the title role in the premiere of the music drama Preciosa von Wolff and Weber at the Theater an der Wien . From 1824 she worked very successfully at the Vienna Court Opera .

On May 26, 1827, Betty Schröder was the first singer to join the Hamburg City Theater, which opened in 1826 and where she had great success. On November 22nd, 1831 she married the doctor Philipp Schmidt (son of the theater director Friedrich Ludwig Schmidt ) in Hamburg and soon after said goodbye to the stage. In 1852/53 there were repeated appearances in Hamburg and Stuttgart , but now in tragic speaking roles, as well as at church music and private concerts.

Betty Schmidt's son Friedrich Ludwig Schmidt , born in 1833, was a well-known baritone, actor and theater director, her older sister the famous singer and actress Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient . The younger sister Auguste Schröder (1810–1874), married Schloenbach, married Gerlach, last worked as an actress at the Coburg Theater , the brother Alexander Schröder, born in 1812, was first an actor, later a major in Munich . The half-brother Wilhelm Smets (1796-1848) was a theologian, writer, priest and from 1844 canon in Aachen .
