Friedrich Ludwig Schmidt (actor, 1833)
Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Schmidt ( October 30, 1833 in Hamburg - July 29, 1890 in Eisenach ) was a German theater actor , opera singer ( baritone ) and director .
Life
Schmidt, son of the actress Elisabeth (Betty) Schmidt (daughter of Sophie Schröder ) and the doctor Philipp Schmidt (son of Friedrich Ludwig Schmidt ), was able to meet his grandfather at the age of six at the 25th anniversary of the director in a festival composed by Karl Gutzkow delight through mimic and declamatory performance. However, he only fully devoted himself to the stage after he had previously worked for a few years (1850–1853) in North America, partly as a farmer and partly as a merchant. After returning to Europe, he went to Paris for six months to study singing at the Conservatoire National de Musique et de Déclamation .
From 1853 Schmidt was engaged in Hamburg for three years at the Stadttheater, then for eighteen years at the Thalia Theater , then from 1874 to 1881 at the Hoftheater in Berlin and finally became a member of the Hoftheater in Hanover, where he was a singer and actor until his death worked as a director of the opera. Formerly an ardent lover, he was later an effective father player. His most successful opera roles, however, included Papageno in Mozart's Magic Flute , Masetto in Don Giovanni by Mozart, Jäger in Das Nachtlager in Granada von Kreutzer and Count Nevers in Die Huguenots von Meyerbeer .
