Georg Joachim Schmitt

Georg Joachim Schmitt (born May 18, 1963 in Trier ) is a German artist and author .

Life

Schmitt studied classical philology, philosophy and art history in Bonn and Tübingen.

His work includes photographic works, paintings, drawings, plastic works, art films, inventions, compositions, book editions, articles on SPIEGELonline and the Süddeutsche Zeitung, documentaries, performances and scientific treatises.

One of his best-known works is “The Nutritional Value of Money”, a series of prints with the results of food chemistry analyzes of D-Mark, dollar and euro. In 2006, Schmitt initiated the first official artist strike in German history at the Brandenburg Gate.

Schmitt is co-organizer of the "cologne contemporary international art biennale 08".
