Georgi Obretenow

Georgi Tichow Obretenow (also spelled Georgi Tihov Obretenov ; Bulgarian Георги Тихов Обретенов ; * around 1849 in Russe , then Ottoman Empire ; † May 10, 1876 near Nejkowo , now in Bulgaria ) was a Bulgarian revolutionary and freedom fighter. Obretenow took part in the failed Stara Sagora uprising of 1875. A year later he was co-organizer and leader of the April Uprising, which was also bloodily suppressed . He was a military instructor for the insurgents in the Second Revolutionary Region of Sliven . He committed surrounded by the Turkish military and guerrillas during the uprising suicide .
