Luggage tensioner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A luggage tensioner or (rubber) tensioning cable (or colloquially an expander ) is an elastic band that is usually covered with a fabric. It is used to fasten objects during transport. There are hooks made of metal or plastic at the ends.

Even if the StVO does not provide any information about lashing material, manufacturers (on packaging) point out that luggage tensioners are not suitable for securing loads. This is due on the one hand to their elasticity and on the other hand to the low lashing force (e.g. LC = 7 daN compared to lashing straps around LC = 800 daN).

Nevertheless, goods can be protected from rattling, sliding, wobbling and flapping with luggage clamps.

The variants with four to eight hooks, also known as octopus, are often used on the bike rack. The multiple strands can be used to secure an object against slipping in multiple directions.
