Gerður Kristný (actually Gerður Kristný Guðjonsdóttir ; born June 10, 1970 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic writer.

Life

Gerður completed her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1992 at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík, majoring in French and Comparative Literature. Her work dealt with Les fleurs du mal by Charles Baudelaire .

So far she has become known for her poems, books for children and young people, works for television and as an editor. Since 1994 she has published over a dozen books, which have also appeared in English and German.

Gerður is married and has two children.

Her collection of poems "Blóðhófnir" is one of the two Icelandic works that were nominated for the 2012 Nordic Council Literature Prize.
