Gerastollen

The Gerastollen is a water transfer tunnel in the Thuringian Forest .

With a length of 9.85 km, it is the longest of the four transfer tunnels as part of the overall concept "Long-distance water supply North Thuringia", which includes a dam network of the Ohra , Schmalwasser and Tambach-Dietharz dams  with the necessary transfer tunnels (other transfer tunnels are the 5.67 km long Haselbach tunnel , the 1.85 km long narrow water tunnel and the 1.1 km long mean water tunnel ). It serves as a free gradient transition to connect the 34.7 km² catchment area of ​​the Zahmen Gera , the Wild Gera , the Kehltalbach , the Sieglitzbach and the Langen Grund to the Ohratalsperre.
