The Society for Corrosion Protection e. V. ( spelling GfKORR ) is a non-profit, registered association based in Frankfurt am Main . Currently (as of 2/2019) it has more than 500 natural scientists, engineers, companies, organizations and institutes as members.

profile

GfKORR was founded in 1995 through the merger of the AGK-Arbeitsgemeinschaft Korrosion e. V. and the VDKORR Association of German Corrosion Experts. GfKORR has been a member of the working group of industrial research associations "Otto von Guericke" e. V. (AiF) and joined forces with twelve other members of the AiF to form the Corrosion Research Board of Trustees.

The Society for Corrosion Protection is a member of the AiF and the European Corrosion Federation. (EFC) and the WCO - The World Corrosion Organization

goals and tasks

In the area of corrosion and corrosion protection, GfKORR has set itself the following statutory goals and tasks:

  • conveying information,
  • Initial and continuing education,
  • the exchange of experiences for practitioners,
  • Promotion of young talent,
  • promoting accreditation and certification,
  • joint industrial research,
  • the organization of specialist conferences and training courses,
  • Participation in standardization,
  • the promotion of cooperation between specialist technical-scientific societies,
  • the competent professional opinion on current problems,
  • Representation in national and international bodies

Advisory board and working groups

For operational and technical support in the implementation of its tasks, the company uses an advisory board of u. a. advises on research projects and coordinates the work of the specialist working groups. Within GfKORR there are specific working groups for all relevant areas of corrosion protection, which usually meet twice a year. The following topics are currently (as of 2/2019) being dealt with in working groups:

Corrosion and corrosion protection of aluminum and magnesium Corrosion protection through coatings
Corrosion protection in electronics and microsystem technology Corrosion issues in chemical engineering
Corrosion and corrosion protection of iron and steel Corrosion protection at elevated temperatures
Basics and simulation Corrosion of ceramic materials
Corrosion investigation and monitoring Corrosion and corrosion protection of copper materials
GfKORR / STG joint committee on maritime technology Microbial material destruction and material protection
Corrosion of polymer materials (together with FGK) Corrosion and Restoration
Damage investigation Materials and corrosion in energy technology
Corrosion protection of wind turbines Zinc and zinc coatings
Corrosion in construction Entry into corrosion

Awarded prizes and awards

Dr. Klaus Seppeler Foundation Prize

The Dr. The Klaus Seppeler Foundation Prize was awarded in 2005 on the initiative of Dr. Klaus Seppeler Foundation set up together with GfKORR to promote outstanding young professionals in the field of corrosion and corrosion protection. The prize, endowed with 2000 euros, is awarded annually to doctoral and master's students. Members of the GfKORR board act as the jury.

Rahmel-Schwenk Medal

The Rahmel-Schwenk-Medal of GfKORR has been awarded since 2000 to outstanding personalities from research and industry who have made a special contribution to the scientific promotion of research and dissemination of knowledge about corrosion and corrosion protection. The medal is named after Alfred Rahmel and Wilhelm Schwenk, who carried out pioneering research in the field of high-temperature corrosion and electrolytic corrosion.

Award winners

  • Martin Stratmann (2016)
  • Joachim Göllner (2010)
  • Günter Schmitt, Iserlohn (2005)
  • Ubbo Gramberg, Leverkusen (2002)
  • Michael Schütze, Aschaffenburg (2000)

Honorary membership of GfKORR

Honorary membership is the highest award given by GfKORR and is given to personalities who have made a special contribution to both corrosion research and the development of GfKORR.

Poster price

On the occasion of the annual GfKORR conference, a poster exhibition of young scientists will take place. The best poster will be honored with the GfKORR poster prize.
