Public Chamber of the Russian Federation

The Social Chamber of the Russian Federation ( Russian Общественная палата Российской Федерации ) was established in 2005. Its legal basis is Law No. 32 “About the Social Chamber of the Russian Federation”, which was adopted by the Duma on March 16 and entered into force on July 1, 2005.

The activity of the Chamber is aimed at bringing the interests of citizens and social groups into the state organs and local administrations and aims to solve the most important problems of economic and social development, guaranteeing national security, and protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens as well as the Constitution of the Russian Federation and democratic principles.

The chamber holds a public hearing of socially significant legislative projects that are in the Duma reading.

The members of the Chamber are appointed by the President . Members of organizations which the state regards as extremist cannot run for membership in the Social Chamber.
