Health determinant
Health determinants are influencing factors that affect the health of the population.
Dahlgren and Whitehead (1991) speak of “4 levels of health influence”. These are:
- the behavior and lifestyle of the individual,
- the support and influence of the individual's social environment, which can be beneficial or hindering,
- living and working conditions and access to facilities and services,
- the economic , cultural and physical environmental conditions, such as the standard of living or the labor market.
The health determinants can be changed and can represent starting points for health promotion .
