Thunderstorm witch

Thunderstorm witches were mythological beings in popular belief . They danced and sang to thunder and lightning in a thunderstorm . In the Alps , they were also held responsible for falling rocks. In some areas it was a custom to burn green wood in the stove during a thunderstorm in order to drive away the thunderstorm witches with the smoke . Used as a phrase or swear word, an old thunderstorm witch means a quarrelsome, angry woman.
