Braid

The knotted carpet is a traditionally braiding made carpet from the tradition of the Chiemsee region .

history

The Chiemgau has belonged to the relatively poor regions in the last few centuries. Luxury , which included a woven rug, was not affordable. The making of braided ropes was a well-known craft . The idea of producing a cold-resistant floor covering from braided textile scraps was developed from this.

production

Strips of fabric that are sewn together at an angle and tucked in at the sides are braided into a three-piece braid and sewn together in turns starting from the middle .

Calculation formula

At the beginning the carpet size is determined. The first plait, the middle of the carpet, is the size of the difference between its length and its width. For a carpet measuring 110 cm × 70 cm, the braid is 40 cm long. For each braid you need three ribbons, each 12 cm wide.
