Giải phóng Miền Nam ( Vietnamese "Free the South") was the national anthem of the Republic of South Vietnam .

history

The song was used from 1969 in the FNL- ruled regions of South Vietnam , which had founded the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam on June 10, 1969 . The author and composer of the hymn was Lưu Hữu Phước , who had already written Tiếng Gọi Công Dân , the national anthem of the Republic of Vietnam in 1948, but who later defected to the communists. When the government of the Republic of Vietnam was overthrown by the Vietnamese People's Army in 1975 and the FNL took over government, Giải phóng Miền Nam became the national anthem of South Vietnam until the two states were reunified.

Original Vietnamese text

Giải phóng miền Nam, chúng ta cùng quyết tiến bước.
Diệt Đế quốc Mỹ, phá tan bè lũ bán nước.
Ôi xương tan máu rơi, lòng hân thù ngất trời.
Sông núi bao nhiêu năm cắt rời.
Đây Cửu Long hùng tráng, Đây Trường Sơn vinh quang.
Thúc giục đoàn ta xung phong đi giết thù.
Vai sát vai chung một bóng cờ.
Vùng lên! Nhân dân miền Nam anh hùng!
Vùng lên! Xông pha vượt qua bão bùng.
Thề cứu lấy nước nhà! Thề hy sinh đến cùng!
Cầm gươm, ôm sung, xông tới!
Vận nước đã đên rồi. Bình minh chiếu khắp nơi.
Nguyện xây non nước sáng tươi muôn đời.

German translation

We are resolutely moving forward for the liberation of the south.
Kill the American occupiers and destroy the traitors.
Our broken bones, the spilled blood make our hatred of the enemy soar up into the sky.
For years our country was torn apart.
Here the mighty Mekong and here the magnificent Truong Son Mountains.
Attacking united, we kill our enemies
shoulder to shoulder, we split our flag
! The heroic people of the south!
On! We overcome every hurricane.
We will sacrifice everything for the liberation of our fatherland!
Take your swords, hug your weapons and march off!
Our fate is now decided. The twilight can be seen everywhere.
We vowed to build our country to make it shine for hundreds of generations.
