history

The 72,000 m² Giardino Bellini is the oldest park in the city. The oldest part of the park is the former garden of the residence of Prince Ignatius Paternò-Castello di Biscari (1719–1786). The city of Catania bought it in 1854. Subsequently, the city commissioned the architect Landolina to expand the area by purchasing land and converting it into a park. In 1883 the city was able to inaugurate the park.
