Gibilmanna (2005)

Gibilmanna is a district (fraction) of the municipality of Cefalù in the Italian region of Sicily . The district is located south of the city center of Cefalù at an altitude of approx. 800 m on the western slope of Pizzo S. Angelo in the Madonie .

There are various theories about the origin of the name. The most likely derivation from Arabic with the word component "djebel" = hill, mountain.

Because of its altitude, Gibilmanna is popular as a holiday resort. Gibilmanna is best known for its Marian shrine , the Santuario di Gibilmanna . Next to the sanctuary is a museum of the Capuchins , the Museo Frà Gianmaria da Tusa .

Gibilmanna was badly damaged in the forest fires in summer 2007.
