Gierke is a Prussian noble family.

history

The family originally comes from Bohemia, where the line of tribe begins with Josef Gierke (Görka, Gehrke). The noble family line goes back to the brothers Walther and Otto Gierke. The former was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility on August 20, 1910 because of his general merits, but above all because of the establishment of a Fideikommiss . The highly respected lawyer, legal historian and politician Otto von Gierke was enrolled in the hereditary Prussian nobility on November 27, 1911. The latter had asked “to give me the same coat of arms in order to preserve family unity that was used in August v. J. my brother Walther received '. He was ennobled at his own request because of his "active participation [...] in the efforts to strengthen Germanism, which was particularly evident in the founding of the national political entails".
