history

Menthe lozenge

In the mid-1880s, the French pharmacist Émile Giffard researched the invigorating and digestive effects of mint and decided to use it to make a liqueur. The liqueur offered from 1885 sold so well that Giffard converted his pharmacy into a distillery and sold the liqueur under the name Menthe-Pastille .

In April 2010, Giffard acquired Bigallet , a liqueur manufacturer that had been active since 1872 .

The company, which is still family-owned, produces not only the classic Menthe Pastille and 30 other liqueur specialties, but also over 60 different syrups , 15 crèmes de fruits and other spirits.
