Girolamo Gardini is a former managing director of Ferrari and co-founded Automobili Turismo e Sport in 1962 .

Girolamo Gardini joined Ferrari in the early 1950s and quickly rose from sales representative to commercial director. He was also responsible for the sales of Ferrari road vehicles. At the end of 1961 there was the so-called palace revolution at Ferrari, which was triggered by a conflict between Laura, the wife of Enzo Ferrari and Giradini. Laura Ferrari had interfered more and more often in the affair of the Ferrari racing team, the Scuderia . Again and again she questioned the competence of the racing technicians. Since these people were paid by Ferrari SpA, Gardini took a protective stand in front of his employees. As a result of a violent dispute with the Ferrari couple, Giradini was fired. Out of solidarity with their boss, Giotto Bizzarrini (director of prototype development), Carlo Chiti (Ferrari's head of development), Fausto Galassi (boss of the foundry), Enzo Selmi (HR director) and Romolo Tavoni (racing manager at Scuderia Ferrari) also left the racing team.

These six people founded Automobili Turismo e Sport in February 1962. Girardini left ATS at the end of the year and worked as a consultant to Italian automotive companies for many years.
