Casting

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As dead reckoning (of English. To guess , estimate) the approximate determination of the geographical location called a ship, the most by dead reckoning is obtained d. H. by adding up the distances covered from the last port.

This cast location serves as the basis for astronomical lines that are determined by measuring two or three star heights. The elevation angle calculated for the approximate location differs from the measured angle and shows how much the true location is closer to the star or further away from it.
