mulled spiced cider

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mulled cider is a hot beverage containing alcohol . It is made from must . This drink is particularly popular in the run-up to Christmas . It is mainly drunk in Austria and southern Germany.

The production of mulled cider is similar to the production of mulled wine : you add cinnamon sticks , cloves , lemon wedges and star anise to the cider (mostly apple cider is used for this ) . Everything is then heated, but not boiled, and can then be sweetened with sugar or honey .

The mulled cider is often compared to hot cider . However, this comparison is not always correct. In the USA, for example, cider stands for a non-alcoholic drink and is comparable to apple juice . So hot cider would be warm apple juice in America. In Great Britain, on the other hand, the comparison is more accurate, although the alcoholic cider there is not the same as the must.

Perry or a mixture of pear and apple cider is also used in some regions.
