Glenlochy was a whiskey distillery in Fort William , Inverness-shire , Scotland . The distillery buildings are classified in category B in the Scottish monument lists.
history
The distillery was founded in 1898 in Inverlochy, which was then still outside Fort William. Since the economic situation was poor at the time of its founding, the distillery was operated in minimum operation from the opening on April 4, 1901. It was later taken over by Scottish Malt Distillers (SMD), but always struggled with economic difficulties and rarely produced at its maximum. On May 31, 1983, SMD closed the distillery. After a failed attempt to demolish the building, the site was sold in 1992. The buildings were partly demolished and partly converted into holiday apartments.
production
The distillery obtained the water it needed from Glen Nevis . For burning were each a rough blister ( wash still ) and a fine blister ( spirit still ) are available. Malt whiskeys were produced.
Bottlings
No original bottlings are known from Glenlochy. However, a number of independent bottlers existed. Among these, Douglas Laing brought the longest matured bottlings to the market at the age of 38 and 49.
