Model of a continental glacier with a glacier gate

The glacier gate is the mostly semicircular, more or less clearly visible exit at the end of the glacier tongue , through which the meltwater of a glacier flows . The meltwater stream, the so-called glacier milk, flows steadily from the glacier gate .

Depending on the size of the glacier tongue, the glacier gate can be a few meters in diameter, up to 40 meters high and up to 30 meters wide.
