The Gliep is a sliding net, about 1 m wide, attached to a wooden stick, which is used by hand to catch crabs in shallow North Sea water ( e.g. in Prielen ) at low tide . Regionally, the safety net is also referred to as Puk ( Pellworm ) and Jall ( Dithmarschen ). When the Gliep is pushed through the water, the cross-grain, which scares the Watt ground clips, the shrimp out of the sand in the network. In the past, the catch was brought home in wicker baskets or with the help of a bucket yoke .
