Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment

The Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) is a differential optical absorption spectrometer that measures in ultraviolet and visible light. The first version of the instrument was launched on April 21, 1995 on board the ERS-2 satellite. GOME measures the solar radiation reflected and scattered by the earth's atmosphere and surface.

The main product is the measurement of ozone in the atmosphere. But other atmospheric parameters (e.g. trace gases ) can also be measured with GOME. GOME also provides essential data for research into volcanic gases and their transport over the earth's surface.

The second version (GOME-2) has been in space on the European meteorological satellite MetOp since 2006 . Compared to the first version, GOME-2 has a higher spatial and spectral resolution.
