Global Processing Unit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Global Processing Unit is a Gnutella / pastel based application . The basic idea is to distribute computing power to computers and thus to be more effective and faster when calculating values.

Procedure

Several computers (a cluster ) form a network through the GPU. A client runs on every computer in this network . This client can be included in arithmetic operations using plugins. So not only one computer calculates the value, but many computers one. Each calculated individual value is then transferred from the clients to a server. With this type of resource sharing, each client computer has to cede performance to this process, which slows down the system.

A cluster has a size between 5 and 17 computers. The Global Processing Unit is used, for example, for rendering videos, creating a search engine, calculating digital landscapes, etc.

Ultimately, the P2P network will create a supercomputer with enormous computing power.
