Gnaeus Mallius Maximus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gnaeus Mallius Maximus was a politician of the late Roman Republic.

He was consul in 105 BC. In the same year, the battle of Arausio against the Cimbri and Teutons took place, one of the worst defeats in the history of the Roman Empire. The reason for this was partly that the general Quintus Servilius Caepio , to whom the bulk of the legions were subordinate, refused to work because of the disregard for the homo novus . Gnaeus Mallius Maximus, who had lost his two sons during the battle, had to testify later (103 BC) in court about the battle.
