Gobryas I.

Gobryas I. or Gubaru ( old Persian Gaubaruva , Babylonian Ugbaru , Elamish Kambarma ; † October 18, 538 BC) was the governor of Sargatia in Gutium (a Median province north of Babylon).

According to the Nabonidus Chronicle, he was born on October 22, 539 BC. Appointed by Cyrus II as governor of Babylon after he switched sides in the decisive battle between the Chaldean king Nabonid and Cyrus II. Gobryas I. then entered Babylon without a fight. Gobryas I. died about a year later on October 18th. The governor Nabû-ahhe-bullit therefore took over his former office again.

  1. According to the Nabonaid Chronicle on the night of the 11th Arahsamna . In the proleptic Julian calendar of 538 BC The 11th Arahsamna fell on October 25th and the beginning of spring on March 28th. In conversion to today's Gregorian calendar, 7 days must therefore be deducted.
