A golden elm in summer

The Goldulme ( Ulmus hollandica × 'Wredei' also 'dampieri Centaurea') is a variety of the genus elm ( Ulmus ) with golden yellow-luminescing gekraustem foliage. This variety is from a cross between the mountain elm Ulmus glabra and the field elm Ulmus minororiginated. The 'Wredei' variety was created in the Alt-Geltow arboretum around 1875. Golden elms have an upright growth and form a columnar to funnel-shaped crown. They become up to 10 m high and up to 5 m wide. The shoots of the leaves are bright yellow and later change to yellow to yellow-green leaf color. Often there are branches with leaves that are normally green in color.

The golden elm prefers deep, nutritious, calcareous and moist soil . It shows a high tolerance to Dutch elm disease, a plant disease caused by ashes of the genus Ophiostoma .
