Goniometry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Goniometry [Greek gonia, angle; metrein, measure] is the general science of measuring and evaluating angles, still used today in surveying ( tachymetry ) and in medicine (determining the mobility of joints).

Goniometry examines the angle functions in a mathematical sense . This does not mean the elementary angle measurement of planimetry . A special case is the triangle calculation ( trigonometry ). Examples are addition theorems and the calculation of angle sums or angle differences.

With the help of the trigonometric functions, the so-called goniometric equations can be formulated.
