The Good Conduct Medal is an award given by the US armed forces . It is usually awarded for a period of three years, during which a soldier has performed honorably and faithfully. This means that no disciplinary measures or even more severe sanctions may have been imposed during this time. Each branch of the armed forces awards the award individually. However, it can also be awarded early or posthumously.
The US Marine Corps introduced the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal back in 1896. The US Coast Guard has awarded the Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal since 1923 , the US Army only officially introduced the Army Good Conduct Medal on June 28, 1941. 1960 and 1963 followed the latest to be Air Force Good Conduct Medal of the Air Force . The award can be upgraded with Service Stars (Navy, Marine Corps and Coat Guard), Oak Leaf Clusters (Air Force) or a Good Conduct Loop (Army).
