Gorgos (Messenia)
Gorgos ( ancient Greek Γόργος ) was the son of Messinian freedom fighter Aristomenes at the time of the second Messenian war . When his father was taken prisoner, he was released with the help of a young woman. In gratitude, Aristomenes gave her his then eighteen-year-old son Gorgos for marriage.
After conquering the Messenian city of Eira , Gorgos and Mantiklos became the leader of the Messenian emigrants. However , the emigrants did not follow his suggestion to settle on Zakynthos . Rather, they decided to conquer Zankle, which they named Messana after the successful implementation of the project .
