Printer's mark by Ghemens

Gottfried von Ghemen (also: Govert van Ghemen, Danish Gotfred af Ghemen) († around 1510) was a Dutch printer who mainly worked in Copenhagen .

Gottfried von Ghemen was initially a printer in Gouda from 1486 to 1489 and then came to Copenhagen, where he opened his first printing office . He can be traced back to Copenhagen with creative periods from 1493 to 1495 and 1505-10, i.e. up to the presumed year of his death. About 25 works by him printed in Latin or Danish are known, such as the first book printed in Danish, Den danske Rimkrønike (The Danish Rhyme Chronicle ), which was published in Copenhagen in 1495. It is the only known incunable in a Scandinavian language.
