Gotthard film
The Gotthard-Film was a Swiss film production company .
history
Gotthard-Film AG was founded in 1923 by writer Stephan Samuel Markus. To finance the founding and his first film, he had to part with parts of his Vincent van Gogh painting collection. After two film productions, he went to Paris and produced nine more feature films in France. The beginning of the war forced him to return to Switzerland. He now rebuilt Gotthard-Film as a GmbH and produced three ambitious works in quick succession. Due to bad luck, Markus could not find any more donors for new projects.
