Łęgowo burial ground

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Łęgowo burial ground, southwest of Wągrowiec in Poland, dates from the Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages . It was created by the carriers of the Lausitz culture (1300–500 BC). About 150 graves with more than 1000 urns containing corpse burns and grave goods were found.

The burial ground also contained bronze ornaments and a moon idol in the form of a rectangular ceramic, which is rare in this part of Poland. Some urns were covered with bowls, while others were upside down or on their side. They were all in grave pits, which usually contained a dozen urns, in a few cases their number even reached 40. There are richly decorated examples of the urns that contained bronze objects, including ten needles or their fragments, a sickle and a razor .

Eratyk Łęgowski's boulder

Among the finds were a number of miniature ceramics containing the remains of young children buried with clay rattles . In one of the children's graves, archaeologists found a spoon with a handle decorated with a stylized bird's head; in another a richly decorated bowl with a picture of a bird inside.

The Eratyk Łęgowski boulder is nearby.
