Grabenöli

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grabenöle near Lüterswil in the canton of Solothurn is an old water-powered oil mill from the 16th century. It stands in a small forest clearing northwest of Lüterswil. The mill is still driven today by the Mühlibach. The water is caught and directed onto the overshot water wheel . Different works are operated with a complicated mechanism. For oil production these are the pan mill , the heating furnace with agitator and the wedge press . Further operations can be done with the bone pounder and the hemp and flax grater. Today tree nuts in particular are processed into oil.

The facility was extensively restored in 1988 with the support of the canton and is now regularly operated again by the Lüterswil oil association. The autumn of 2009 was so arid that it was only possible to grind a little. The mill can be visited by appointment.
