Duke University Graduate School

The Duke University Graduate School is one of ten institutions at Duke University in Durham , North Carolina that provide the university's teaching and research offering in the field of graduate studies . The Graduate School was founded in 1926 and offers the Master of Arts , Master of Science , Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Public Policy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees as academic degrees .

The combination of these two offices reflects the prominent role of the Graduate School in providing the teaching and research capabilities of Duke University. This role is particularly evident from the fact that the Graduate School is presented as the “intellectual and academic core” of Duke University.

In April 2011, around 2,200 Ph.D. and around 600 Master’s students studied here in more than 60 subjects and study programs, who are supervised by around 1,000 lecturers.

Until 1968 the Graduate School was called the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences , in February of this year the institution was given its current name in order to do justice to the fact that in the meantime numerous courses outside of the classical subjects of the humanities and natural sciences were offered .

Paula D. McClain (Dean of The Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education) is in charge.
