Prairie Fire Index

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prairie Fire Index (GLFI) is an experimental for Germany conflagration - Early Warning System of the German Weather Service . Similar to the forest fire warning levels, it should provide information about the endangerment of a certain area and grant the local fire brigades adequate preparation time. Since grassland catches fire much faster than forest areas, the wildfire warning level (I to V) is usually higher than the forest fire warning. The GLFI is primarily important for agriculture.
