Graz Linux Days

The Grazer Linuxtage (GLT) are a big event all about open source, free software and free hardware in Austria. After more than a decade at the Institute for Vehicle Technology at the FH Joanneum Graz , they have been taking place on the Inffeld campus of the Graz University of Technology since 2019 . For two days, interested parties can look forward to a varied program with lectures, workshops and information stands.

Grown from 17 lectures on Linux in 2003, the Graz Linux Days now offer a broad program of almost 70 workshops and lectures on a wide range of topics in free technology, community and open culture.

In addition to the lecture program, visitors to the GLT can also get information and advice from companies, associations and joint projects at over 30 exhibition stands.

history

2002

In 2002, the Graz Linux Days were still an insider event that was considered "unofficial".

2003

The Graz Linux Days took place for the first time on April 25, 2003, after a small group of Graz students, encouraged by great experiences at similar events abroad, decided to try it in their hometown as well. The Chemnitz Linux Days and the FOSDEM serve as special models .

2004

The Graz Linux Days 2004 took place on May 7th and 8th, 2004 at the FH Joanneum in Graz.

2005

The Grazer Linuxtage 2005 took place on May 13th and 14th, 2005 in Graz and Kapfenberg at the FH Joanneum. Business Day took place in Kapfenberg on May 13th and Community Day on May 14th in Graz.

Since the FH Joanneum has grouped its degree programs around computer science and IT at the Kapfenberg location, a group of students of these courses decided to organize a day of the Graz Linux Days in Kapfenberg. The tasks and content were distributed in such a way that the day in Kapfenberg was referred to as a business day and that in Graz as a community day.

2006

The Grazer Linuxtage 2006 took place on May 19 and 20, 2006, as in 2005, in Graz and Kapfenberg.

2007

The Grazer Linuxtage 2007 took place as part of the Linux Weeks Austria on May 19, 2007 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. For the first time, exams from the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) were offered.

2008

The Grazer Linuxtage 2008 took place on April 19, 2008 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. For the first time over 300 visitors were counted.

2009

The Grazer Linuxtage 2009 took place on April 25th, 2009 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. For the first time, over 450 visitors were counted.

2010

The Grazer Linuxtage 2010 took place on April 24, 2010 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. For the first time over 500 visitors were counted.

2011

The Grazer Linuxtage 2011 took place on April 9, 2011 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. Over 500 visitors were counted.

2012

The Grazer Linuxtage 2012 took place on April 28, 2012 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. For the first time over 550 visitors were counted.

2013

The Grazer Linuxtage 2013 took place on April 20, 2013 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. For the first time over 700 visitors were counted.

2014

The Grazer Linuxtage 2014 took place on April 4th and 5th, 2014 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. For the first time, over 800 visitors were counted.

Workshop day

After a few years of successfully expanding the lecture and exhibition program, the organizers of the Grazer Linuxtage 2014 dared to outsource the workshops to a dedicated day for the first time.

Workshops usually run longer than normal lectures and the separate day also allowed those taking part in the workshops to visit the range of lectures more comprehensively. This format is still up to date and is very much appreciated by visitors to GLT.

2015

The Grazer Linuxtage 2015 took place on April 24th and 25th, 2015 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. Over 800 visitors were counted.

2016

The Grazer Linuxtage 2016 took place on April 29th and 30th, 2016 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. Again over 800 visitors were counted.

2017

The Graz Linux Days 2017 took place on April 28 and 29, 2017 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. Over 750 visitors were counted.

2018

The Graz Linux Days 2018 took place on April 27 and 28, 2018 at the FH Joanneum in Graz. Over 800 visitors were counted. For the first time, lectures and workshops were streamed live on the Internet and recorded by the Chaos Computer Club Video Operation Center .

2019

The Grazer Linuxtage 2019 took place for the first time on April 26 and 27, 2019 on the Inffeld campus at the Graz University of Technology .

Change to TU Graz

Due to renovation work on the building of the Institute for Vehicle Technology at the FH Joanneum, the organizers of the GLT had to look for a new venue for 2019.

In addition to other rooms at the FH Joanneum, there were also rooms and infrastructure on the Inffeld campus of the Graz University of Technology. After careful consideration, the decision was made to move from FH Joanneum to TU Graz after more than 15 years.
