Great Fish River Museum
The Great Fish River Museum is a regional museum in the South African city of Cradock that opened in 1979. It was named after the region's most important watercourse, the Great Fish River .
The museum is located in a historic building that was used as the parish building of the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa (DRC) around 1849 . Later the owners changed, including the community of Cradock, which used it for their health department. The building was granted National Monument status by South Africa in 1971. Resident members of Cradock Foundation ( Cradock Foundation ) restored and developed it into a museum.
The exhibition provides information about the living situation of the first settlers in the region, as it developed here after the second British occupation since 1806. In addition, furniture, ceramics, photographs and regional cultural collection items from this era are shown.
