Mathias Föhrenbach (born April 16, 1766 in Siegelau , † October 21, 1841 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a Baden lawyer and politician .

Mathias Föhrenbach was born in Siegelau near Emmendingen in 1766 as the son of the farmer of the same name, Mathias Föhrenbach.

education

Because of his talent, Mathias Föhrenbach was taught in the monastery schools of Tennenbach and Villingen. He then studied law from 1788 to 1792 at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg im Breisgau. Together with his fellow student Karl von Rotteck , he belonged to the inner circle around Johann Georg Jacobi .

career

Mathias Föhrenbach's career began as a syndicus in the western Austrian city of Waldshut . In doing so, he particularly distinguished himself in the marches of the French troops in the coalition wars and received the citizenship of the city for this. 1803 after the transfer of the Breisgau to the Prince of Modena until 1806 Mathias Föhrenbach worked as the archducal Austrian rights council in Freiburg. In 1806, after the transfer to Baden, he was taken over as the prince-elector of Baden and then held the office of senior magistrate for the districts of Säckingen, Laufenburg and Schönau. In 1819 Mathias Föhrenbach was appointed senior court judge to Mannheim . From 1822 to 1823 and again in 1831 Mathias Föhrenbach was President of the Second Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly . After his retirement in 1835, Mathias Föhrenbach spent the evening of his life in Freiburg, where he died in 1841.

Mathias Föhrenbach was married to Nannette Brogli from Waldshut since 1797. On the recommendation of his friend Philipp Jakob Nabholz , he had his two sons raised by Pestalozzi in Yverdon . The son Anton Föhrenbach died as a chief engineer in Offenburg in 1871. The son August Föhrenbach died in 1872 as a secret councilor a. D. in Freiburg. His son Adolf Föhrenbach also joined the Baden state administration as a lawyer.
