Baden biographies

Badische Biographien is a biographical reference work founded by Friedrich von Weech in 1875 on people from Baden history, i.e. a regional biography of Baden .

First episode

The first two volumes, published in 1875, contain biographies of personalities of the 19th century who had died by then. The other four volumes are each designed as a necrology and only contain people who have died in the meantime. In 1935 the sixth and last volume appeared, which continued the necrology until 1911, the year of his death. Volumes 5 and 6 were published on behalf of the Baden Historical Commission.

The six volumes contain original articles by numerous authors as well as reprints of obituaries that had previously appeared in newspapers.

New episode

In 1982, under the same title, a new biographical series on people in Baden history who have since died was started, which was published on behalf of the Commission for Historical Regional Studies in Baden-Württemberg . This “New Episode” contained shorter biographies, the structure of which was based on the New German Biography , and said goodbye to the restriction of the first episode to people perceived as “positive”. The new episode was completed with the 6th volume.

People who worked in the Baden part of Baden-Württemberg are biographed in the series Baden-Württemberg Biographies , which will continue to be published .
