The Commission for Historical Regional Studies in Baden-Württemberg (KgL) is a non-university association of various scientists that is financed and controlled by the state of Baden-Württemberg . Her main task is to research questions of regional and regional history .

General

The commission edits historical sources , publishes illustrations and reference works and organizes scientific events. The publications include series and journals that are important for state history (see below), for example the two state history journals (Journal for the History of the Upper Rhine, Journal for Württemberg State History), four biographical series, the state bibliography and the historical atlas of Baden-Württemberg.

organization

The Commission is an unincorporated public corporation with its own statutes . It is based at the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and Art and has its own office in Stuttgart . The KgL is headed by a chairman who is elected by the general assembly for five years. Other organs are the executive board (four members), the full board (eight further members) and the general assembly. The latter meets annually and decides on a work plan. The commission consists of a maximum of 60 full members and an unlimited number of corresponding members. The full members are appointed by the Science Minister on the proposal of the Board of Directors, the corresponding members on the proposal of the General Assembly.

The commission for historical regional studies in Baden-Württemberg was founded in 1954. She is the legal successor to three previous commissions, namely the Baden Historical Commission (1883–1941), the Upper Rhine Historical Commission (1941–1945) and the Württemberg Commission for State History (1891–1954).
